New Orleans North’ will rock the town June 8
=
If you’ve always loved the “Big Easy,” you may think you’re actually there on June 8 when the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry turns Joliet into New Orleans North.
The Chamber will host New Orleans North, closing Chicago Street from Jefferson to Clinton from 5-11:30 p.m., and turning the street into the tastes, sights and sounds of New Orleans. Local food vendors will bring such culinary delights as crawfish, gumbo, dirty rice, and more. For those faint of heart and not into Cajun food, there will also be hamburgers and sausage.
Two bands will provide blues and other sounds of New Orleans. Performing first will be Chicago Blues Angels. Then the band T-Bird Huck will have the street rocking into the night.
This adults only event includes a beer garden where you’ll be able to kick back and enjoy the music, fun, and camaraderie. Tickets are only $5 and available at the Chamber office at 63 N. Chicago, or at the door. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the United Way. Beer tickets will be available in the beer tent and food may be purchased the night of the event.
Corporate sponsor of the event is D’Arcy Automobile dealership. Co-chairpersons for the event are Jeff Thompson of Northern Insurance and Tom Grotovsky of R. Berti Building Solutions.
“We expect a fun night, from the time you enter ‘New Orleans’ and get your beads until you leave,” said Mary Jaworski, vice president of the Chamber. “We are looking forward to a fine evening of entertainment and great food!”
