Harbour Contractors, with corporate headquarters in Plainfield, offers full construction and contracting services to its business clients.

“We’re a construction management and general contractor company,” said Harbour Contractors principal, Patrick Harbour, Jr. “We have three business units: aviation, vertical construction (general commercial and industrial building), and railroad construction.”

Founded by Irvin Harbour in 1959, Harbour Contractors has been a family-owned business for three generations.

“My grandfather started the company. We’ve been around for 53 years and for three generations,” said Harbour, whose newborn daughter will, he said, hopefully be the fourth generation in the business.

Harbour Contractors has been doing business in the Joliet area since its beginning. In fact, one of the first projects that Harbour Contractors completed was a library job for the University of St. Francis in Joliet. The company also has done work for the Will County adult detention facility, the former Empress Casino, and just recently did a project for Peoples Gas in Joliet.

Harbour Contractors also does a lot of work for local chemical companies and is currently on-site in Morris at LyondellBassel, working on a 500-car rail storage yard. It also recently was awarded an exclusive Developer’s Agreement from the Village of Romeoville to redevelop its downtown area.

Patrick believes that Harbour Contractors’ membership with the Joliet Chamber will be useful in building awareness that they are a local business.

“I think that one of the things that we’re really trying to do is let people know that we are a Will County company,” he said. “We want people to know that we are Will County, we are local, and that we hire local people”.
