Chicago-area women and the men who love them will join the fight against heart disease in women at the American Heart Association’s annual Go Red for Women luncheon at noon on Feb. 21 at the Walnut Room at Macy’s on State Street in Chicago.

Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association’s national movement to end heart disease in women. The movement advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health.

The Go Red For Women Luncheon, chaired this year by Sharon O’Keefe, president of University of Chicago Medical Center is the signature fundraising event of the campaign, which raises awareness of women’s No. 1 killer, heart disease. Tickets for the event are $250 each and may be purchased by calling (312) 476-6624 or visiting www.ChicagoGoRedforWomen.org.

In addition, the following heart health events are planned for the western suburbs:

Mended Hearts: This free support group is open to anyone dealing with heart-related health issues; either their own or a loved one’s. Meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month in St. Luke’s Room at Provena Saint Joseph Hospital, 77 N. Airlite St., Elgin. (847) 888-3193. Provena.org.

Fitness Fun Fair for Kids: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 22 at Vaughan Athletic Center, 2121 W. Indian Trail, Aurora. (630) 907-9600.

Healthy Habits for Successful Living: Meets 11 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, Feb. 5 through May 7, at the Oswego Senior Center, 156 E. Washington St., Oswego. The free 14-week nutrition and lifestyle challenge is geared toward those 55 and older who want to lose weight or live a healthier lifestyle. Community Weight Loss Challenge: Edward Hospital’s Community Weight Loss Challenge is back! Whether participating as an individual, or as part of a team, you’ll be part of the competition to see who can lose the greatest percentage of weight during this free 8-week online challenge, which runs through March 31. Go Red For Women Total Makeover: Macy’s and the American Heart Association team up to host the Go Red Total Makeover from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 8 at Macy’s, 6 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook. Women will be invited to “Speak Red” about what they do to take care of their heart health and learn how to improve their lives. Guests will visit stations throughout the store to meet experts to learn how to make smart choices for their health. This event is free to the public and if you complete all station visits, you have an opportunity to win a $250 Macy’s gift card.
