Valley West thanks its hard-working volunteers

Valley West Community Hospital Volunteers were honored at the Auxiliary’s Annual Spring Meeting and Luncheon on May 22 for their contributions during 2011. In addition to the annual business meeting and installation of officers, board members were recognized for their service to the Auxiliary, and the Valley West Auxiliary was recognized by the Illinois Hospital Association (IHA) for continued support and involvement.

Jana Kingston, Volunteer Services Coordinator, honored volunteers for hours of service donated to Valley West in 2011, and each recipient received a gift card and long-stemmed rose. In 2011, 65 in-service volunteers donated 8,615 hours in Patient Registration, the Gift Shop, Mail Service, Same Day Surgery and the Emergency Room. Volunteers also helped with the quarterly blood drives, annual Wellness Fair, the Sandwich Fair booth, and other community events sponsored by the hospital.

Volunteers donating between 200 – 300 hours were Marge Beghin, Karol Grandgeorge, Don Lorenz, Lee McKenzie, Karen Oldeen, Bonnie Thompson and Betty Warren. Volunteers donating between 300 – 400 hours were Diane Pearson and Betty Hargraves.

Sara Taylor was recognized for 488 hours of service in 2011. This was the seventh year that Sara earned the award for having the most hours in one year.

The following volunteers donated 500 hours and received their Club 500 pin: Phyllis Davis, Karen Oldeen, Kathy Passow, Bonnie Staley and Betty Warren. Phyllis Zoellner received her 1,000 hour pin, and Betty Hargraves also received her 3,000 hour pin.

Following Volunteer Recognition and lunch, the Valley West Auxiliary hosted speaker, Barry Kolanowski, who spoke about volunteerism.
