For pre-teen girls, the physical and emotional changes ahead can be puzzling or overwhelming. A class, "Girls Only: Your Changing Body," at Valley West Community Hospital, can help.
So many ways to stay well - Valley West Community Hospital has announced its roster of upcoming classes and events:
Immunization Clinic
Children's immunizations are available Sept. 10, and on the second Monday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m. at Valley West Community Hospital. IPA medical card accepted or $15 per vaccine. Call the DeKalb County Health Department for an appointment,815.748.2460.
Diabetes: Self-Management
Learn the latest in diabetes care with an emphasis on the positives. Take the initiative now to control your diabetes and not allow it to control you. The class meets Sept. 10, 9 - 11 am, Sept. 17 and 24, 9 am - 12 pm, in the Valley West Medical Office Building. Registration is required for this program and closes three days before the program date. A minimum number of participants is also required. Tour the Valley West Maternity Suites
Expectant parents and those considering parenthood are encouraged to join Valley West for a walking tour of the beautiful and spacious Maternity Suites every Monday, at 7 p.m. and by appointment. Prepared Childbirth Education
This class includes information on pregnancy, labor, delivery, newborn care and post-partum period. Please bring 2 - 3 pillows to class. Instructed by certified childbirth educator. The class is $20 per couple. The class is Tuesdays, Sept. 11 - Oct. 2, from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. in the Valley West Medical Office Building. Girls Only...Your Changing Body
This program is for 9 to 12-year-old girls and their moms. The natural physical and emotional changes a young girl experiences can be overwhelming and puzzling. Knowing what to expect can lessen anxiety and make the transition smoother. The fee is $10 per family. The class is on Sept. 12, from 6 - 8 pm, in the Valley West Medical Office Building. General Cancer Support Group
The general cancer support group is open to anyone impacted by the disease of cancer. This monthly group provides an opportunity to learn more about cancer from fellow patients, caregivers and trained staff in a safe and encouraging environment. The group is open to patients, caregivers and community members. The group meets on Sept. 12, and the second Wednesday of every month, from 8:30 - 9:30 am, in the Valley West Medical Office Building. Blood Pressure Clinic
Valley West nurse volunteers offer free weekly blood pressure checks at Valley West Community Hospital every Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. Just walk in, no registration is required.

Often the most powerful interventions in psychotherapy are also profound spiritual practices.
