Bridgeport is emerging as a Chicago neighborhood rising star, and today is a cultural hub and mecca for artists, trendy restaurants and boutiques.

Families and young professionals looking for a great neighborhood close to the amenities of the city are flocking to Bridgeport, and Chicago-based Lexington Homes is answering the call for new-construction rowhomes again. The builder just announced sales have begun at Lexington Square2, a new phase of 24 single-family rowhomes in Bridgeport.

“It’s not your father’s Bridgeport anymore,” said Jeff Benach, co-principal of Lexington Homes, developer of the nearly sold-out Lexington Square rowhome community. “Just in the past few years, the influx of new businesses, cultural amenities and residents has breathed new life into Bridgeport. It’s now a destination for art lovers and foodies. It also is becoming one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in Chicago.”

Benach has watched Bridgeport transform right in front of his eyes from Lexington Square, a community of 39 single-family rowhomes at 3630 S. Sangamon St. just eight blocks west of U.S. Cellular Field. Directly to the north, the new Lexington Square2 will offer the same three-story homes as were built at Lexington Square, with three bedrooms, 2½ baths, rooftop decks and attached two-car garages. Options are available for a fourth bedroom and additional bath. Base-priced from the $370,000s, two floor plans are available ranging from 2,216 to 2,507 square feet.

The new vitality and vibe of Bridgeport has attracted young professionals and families to Lexington Square, and we predict the same for Lexington Square2, said Benach.

“We’ve experienced a ‘baby boom’ phenomenon at Lexington Square, as half of our homebuyers have newborns, toddlers or young children,” he said. “And we just found out three more residents are expecting babies. These families were searching for a larger home and family-friendly neighborhood, which they found here. Plus, our rowhomes have great main level layouts with open kitchens, dining and living rooms practical for families, as well as three or four bedrooms plus family rooms that provide plenty of space and options.”

Another big draw of the homes is the generous outdoor space, including a rooftop deck, fenced-in front yard and large rear balcony off the kitchen.

“Each home has an oversized balcony off the kitchen and a fenced-in front yard, which is great for dogs and kids,” said Benach. “The crowning glory, however, is that all homes have a rooftop deck, which is an amazing space for entertaining and relaxing with views of U.S. Cellular Field and the downtown skyline.”

According to Benach, a main driver of the change in Bridgeport in recent years is that the area has become an artists’ community. The Bridgeport Art Center and Zhou B Art Center are two major studios that have opened and drawn in artist talent to live and work in the area. Artists are also utilizing storefronts along Halsted Street.

New restaurants and cafes in the neighborhood also are drawing people. Two of the new restaurants caught the eye of the Michelin dining awards, which awarded Bib Gourmand status to local eateries Nana and Han202 for high quality food at a good value. Other new restaurants include Chicago Sports Grille and Pleasant House Bakery.

Lexington Square2 is located across from Donovan Park, which is a large city park with ball fields, basketball courts, and a soft-surface playground with spraypool.

The location is also exceptional for commuters, putting them in proximity to all major expressways, two lines of the “L,” and a new Metra station in the neighborhood.

To visit Lexington Square2, exit I-90/94 at 35th Street and head west for eight blocks. Turn left at Halsted Street and continue for three blocks to 37th Street. Turn right at 37th Street, and the sales center will be just ahead at 37th and Sangamon streets. Sales center hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about Lexington Square2, call (773) 523-5900 or visit www.lexingtonchicago.com.
