Summer is a good time to purchase a new home. Moving is easier because of the weather, kids are out of school and builders are anxious to sell some homes so that the balance sheet at the end of the year looks favorable.
To move some homes this season, Austin Highlands Inc. is temporarily dropping the price of its two-bedroom condominium homes by $10,000 at Torrey Pines in Lise. Base prices are as low as $129,000.
Placed in a three-story elevator building with only 24 units being offered, 16 of which have already been sold, the 1,000 square-foot homes offer a stair-free, maintenance-free lifestyle.
At this price and with interest rates at 3.75 percent a family can hardly afford to keep on renting an apartment or living with the parents or in-laws. The monthly mortgage payment for this condominium home could only be about $602 (payment doesn’t include insurance, private mortgage insurance or property taxes).
“Some people might believe that they cannot qualify for a home mortgage at this rate because of their credit score or employment history,” said Edward Paliatka, president of Austin Highlands Inc. “To these people I would say, come on in and talk with us. You might be surprised of what we can do for you because of our long term relationships with a variety of lenders.”
