Lake Chapin Shores property owners have some advice for families considering a second home in the Midwest: if you are looking for someplace special, this could be it.

Lake Chapin Shores is a quiet community of waterfront and woodland homes located on a 600-acre all-sports lake, just 90 minutes from downtown Chicago in southwest Michigan. “We chose a hilltop setting overlooking Lake Chapin and the builder helped us take complete advantage of the expansive views of lake and woods by designing the home with lots of large windows and wraparound deck space,” said owners Barb and Ken, who live high on the hill. “Wherever we are in the home, we can see the colors and seasonal beauty that surrounds us here. It’s peaceful. We’re having the best time together in this relaxed setting.”

There there are Carole and Gary, who chose a homesite on the shore.

“We enjoy views of the water on three different levels, with enough indoor and outdoor space to accommodate our large family and entertain comfortably. We worked with the builder on a regular basis to make adjustments that we knew would work well, but couldn’t have known until we began building.”

The builder, Greg Fenner of Fenner Homes, was thoughtful about his response to their requests, applying his 30-plus years of construction knowledge to their desire for open spaces within a private setting.

Their advice: “Make sure you’re working with a builder who listens to your needs and ideas and maintains tight communication throughout the building process. It is so critical to the finished product and to the final cost of your project.”

Betsy and Paul chose a woodland getaway.
“We appreciate quiet privacy, surrounded by mature trees, and living in a community where we can readily socialize with other couples and families, just by walking down the road to the lake or pool. The views from every room are absolutely rejuvenating and make the home more inviting for everyone who visits.”

Their advice: “Do your homework on the community and surrounding area to make sure it’s a place that offers what you want in terms of social setting, access to activities that interest you and easy proximity to the shopping and services you’ll need. We chose Lake Chapin Shores because it is a quiet country setting with all of the advantages and amenities of the city.”

A lakeside hill site was chosen by Cheryl and Gary.

“Being on top of a hill overlooking the lake and the pool, just steps down to the gazebo and private dock, and having several levels of living space make our home the setting for non-stop family fun. We live very busy business lives, so our lakeside home gives us a chance to exhale and take in the breath-taking beauty of the lake. And our small children seem to be just as happy playing at the heated pool.”

Their advice: “Make a list of all of the wants and needs you have for your perfect family getaway and choose a setting where you can work with the developer and the builder to make it happen.
