The 2013 Realtor Nationwide Open House Weekend will take place this Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21, with many Realtors extending invitations to potential home buyers to get out and see a variety of city and suburban homes.

Potential buyers may want to get out while an attractively priced inventory is still available. According to the latest monthly data, the February 2013 supply of single-family homes in the city of Chicago was down 46 percent compared to the same time last year, and the supply of condos was down 62.6 percent from February 2012. In addition to the number of homes on the market dropping, the home affordability in Chicago is also slowly going down.

“The current market renewal leaves no question about Chicagoans’ continued desire for homeownership,” said Realtor Zeke Morris, president of the Chicago Association of Realtors and Operating Principal and Managing Broker at Keller Williams Realty, CCG. “For anyone debating home buying in the near future, now is the time to act.”

“This is a real advantage to the public. They can go in without an appointment or obligation and look around, and they are able to see a lot,” said Frank Turk, marketing director for Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell, based in Joliet. “A lot of our agents are having open houses.”

The Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors (GNIAR) members are also participating. Locally, open houses will be held at varied times throughout Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper and Newton counties.

“This is the fourth year for this event. We’re excited for consumers to see what the local housing market has to offer. Northwest Indiana is an amazing place to call home for many reasons from our affordability, tax caps in our legislature, overall quality of life and diversity of this area and so much more,” said GNIAR Chief Executive Officer Peter Novak, Jr.

Realtor Nationwide Open House Weekend is a program designed to bring buyers and sellers together and provide an opportunity for Realtors to educate consumers in their communities about housing issues that matter most to them.
