The staff at Neurology and Pain Management are dedicated to the compassionate care of patients with neurological disease and chronic pain. Under direction of Dr. Julian Ungar, patients receive expert guidance in the diagnosis of such disorders as chronic disc pain, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, epilepsy and seizures, stroke and migraine.

Using state-of-the-art diagnostic and imaging studies, patients find the cause for their symptoms and find a listening voice in these caregivers who approach each patient as a unique individual with respect for the dignity and choices that need to be made in approaching chronic illness and pain.

Respecting the autonomy of each patient also means compassion for those who cannot afford health care and those without insurance. The staff accepts all patients, irrespective of their ability to pay, and have a cash basis and sliding scale so that all have access to treatment.

Once the diagnosis is made, different treatment strategies are proposed so that each patient can make an intelligent choice about their health care. Various new technologies are offered such as VNS implants for epilepsy, stimulators and pumps for intractable pain, besides the usual interventional pain management tools such as epidurals, nerve blocks, etc.

Our Merrillville office is located one block south of Methodist Hospitals off Broadway on 90th Drive, and our hours are by appointment without need for referral by a primary care physician. We provide second opinions in a discreet setting for those wishing a single consultation prior to surgery and other scheduled procedures.
