Southwest suburban families are being treated the way they should be treated at Silver Cross Hospital. Conveniently located at I-355 and Route 6 in nearby New Lenox, the 289-bed hospital opened just two years ago on Feb. 26, 2012. Patients at the new hospital are cared for in spacious, private rooms with advanced technology including electronic health records. You also have expanded access to new services and enhanced expertise through partnerships with renowned academic medical centers.

“Patients no longer have to travel downtown to receive top-notch care,” said Paul Pawlak, President and CEO of Silver Cross Hospital. “Specialists in cancer, pediatrics and rehabilitation are bringing new treatments and therapies to your backyard.”

Located on the New Lenox campus is the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross Hospital. Patients now have convenient access to University of Chicago adult and pediatric cancer specialists, state-of-the-art chemotherapy and radiation therapy, as well as access to more clinical trials than any other program in Illinois.

Families can also see more than 20 specialists from Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital at Silver Cross. Lurie Children’s physicians care for pediatric patients of all ages in the hospital and have offices in Pavilion B on the New Lenox campus.

In addition, Silver Cross has teamed up with The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC). RIC has been ranked the “Best Rehabilitation Hospital in America” by U.S. News & World Report every year since 1991. The same specialized care is available in our new 24-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit and at four outpatient facilities including the Silver Cross Health Center at 143rd and Bell Rd. in Homer Glen.

In addition to RIC at Silver Cross, Orland Park residents can also see primary care and specialist physician offices as well as have an MRI, CT Scan, X-ray, ultrasound, or lab services at our Homer Glen facility.

There is also an emergency care center open 24/7. If you need to be transferred to the hospital, paramedics are on-site.

This is good news for stroke patients since Silver Cross Hospital is designated as a Primary Stroke Center.

With a team of some of the most experienced specialists in the Chicago area, the Silver Cross Neuroscience Institute offers the full continuum of care that includes preventing strokes and aneurysms, halting them in their path, and providing the necessary rehabilitation to get stroke victims back on their feet and back to their lives. In our new Endovascular Lab, neuro-interventional radiologists diagnosis and treat strokes quickly and safely using a state-of-the-art bi-plane angiography system. Take a virtual tour of the Lab or request a stroke awareness kit at silvercross.org/neuro.

Specialized services
for Women

Since opening the new hospital, Silver Cross has added not one but two daVinci surgical robots. Specially trained physicians use the daVinci to perform a variety of procedures including hysterectomies and gall bladder removal through just a single tiny incision.

The result is better clinical outcomes, including less pain, a shorter hospital stay, and faster return to normal activities. Offering robotic surgery is one of the factors that led Silver Cross to be designated as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG) by the AAGL, the leading association of minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons worldwide, and Surgical Review Corporation.

Besides offering specialized surgical services, Silver Cross is encouraging women to take care by rewarding them for getting their annual preventative screenings such as mammograms and cardiac tests through the I Matter program. Following the screening, patients receive an I Matter card which can be redeemed at over 55 local businesses including several retailers at Orland Square Mall for valuable discounts. For more information or to sign-up to become an I Matter member, visit www.IMatter.silvercross.org. There is no fee to join the program.

Women are also choosing Silver Cross Hospital to expand their families. Since opening the hospital, we have delivered over 4,200 babies. Our new Birthing Center has 12 luxurious suites designed for labor, delivery and recovery so parents can have the convenience of staying in the same room through recovery followed by a stay in one of 30 private mother-baby suites. Each private suite is fully-equipped with a bathroom with a shower and immersion tub to help with labor pains, blanket warmer, refrigerator, wireless internet access, flat screen TV system, and a comfortable sofa-sleeper so family members can stay around the clock. And for deliveries requiring surgery, there are two complete cesarean suites. For more information or to schedule a personal tour, visit www.silvercross.org/specialdeliveries.

For those individuals who don’t have a new baby, but still have trouble sleeping, Silver Cross has a Sleep Disorders Center at the hospital. In addition to diagnosing and treating sleep apnea, the Center specializes in sleep-related breathing disorders, insomnia, sleep related movement disorders, and narcolepsy.
