Lewis athletics announces Melanie DeBoer-Brunsdon as the new Associate Athletics Director

Romeoville, Ill. - Lewis University Director of Athletics Dan Schumacher announced on Wednesday (Jan. 25) that he has hired Melanie DeBoer-Brunsdon as the Flyers' newest Associate Director of Athletics and Director of Compliance for the Athletics Department.

"We are excited to welcome Melanie to the Lewis Family," Schumacher said. "Her expertise in compliance and ability to serve the needs of our student-athletes makes her a perfect fit for our program."

DeBoer comes to Lewis after serving as the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Life/Senior Woman Administrator for Minot State since November 2009. While there, DeBoer-Brunsdon chaired Minot State's Gender Equity Committe to focus on Title IX and aided to improve student-athlete welfare issues. She helped produce both the Compliance Manual and student-athlete handbook. DeBoer-Brunsdon was also the recipient of Minot State's Vision 2013 award.

"I'm ecstatic to be joining the staff here at Lewis University," DeBoer-Brunsdon said. "I believe my experiences and knowledge will help to serve our student-athletes both academically and athletically."

Prior to her stint at Minot State, DeBoer-Brunsdon was the Director of Athletic Recruiting for Upper Iowa from January of 2008 until October of 2009. While there, DeBoer-Brunsdon served as the liaison to the admissions department in recruiting of prospective student-athletes.

She is no stranger to the Chicagoland area, as she served two stints at Loyola, both as an intern from January of 2003 until March of 2003 and as the Assistant Director of Compliance and CHAMPS/Life Skills Coordinator and Adminstrative Assistant from July of 2004 until December of 2005. During her second go-around with Loyola, DeBoer-Brunsdon assisted with various compliance duties and structured CHAMPS/Life Skills opportunities.

Between those jobs, DeBoer-Brunsdon as the Horizon League Championships and Compliance intern and Interim Assistant to the Commissioner Jon LeCrone from September of 2003 until May of 2004.
