Patterson, a nursing major, earned a 3.67 grade-point-average in her first semester at Lewis. She was equally as impressive on the cross country course, as she claimed three top-20 finishes in her first season as a Flyer.

"Kayla had a great start to her collegiate cross country career," Lewis head women's cross country coach Dana Schwarting said. "She has been equally as successful in the classroom and is proving to become one of our team leaders."

To qualify for the Division II USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or greater through the most recent semester, completed at least 12 credit hours in the semester of cross country competition, and placed in the top 50 percent at the most recent NCAA National Championships or in the top 30 percent at the NCAA Regional Championships.
