Lewis was led by junior Jay Petty's (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) 14 kills. He finished with a double-double thanks to adding 11 digs. Junior Ian Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) recorded 11 kills. Senior Aaron Flick (North Ridgeville, Ohio/St. Edward) also had a double-double, hitting .706 with 13 kills and 10 blocks (one solo). Lewis recorded 18 blocks as a team.

Flick had four block assists in the deciding fifth set. Petty recorded kills on each of his three attempts in the fifth. Lewis never trailed in the final frame. A Petty kill and two George Mason hitting errors in the fifth put the Flyers up 7-3 and forced the Patriots to ask for time.

"Aaron was a big catalyst for us tonight," Lewis head coach Dan Friend said. "His blocks alone in the fifth set were big."

The match featured 31 ties and 10 lead changes.

"We were up in games two and three and we didn't finish," Friend said. "We knew it was going to be a long trip coming out here. Spending 13 hours on the bus is tough and we struggled here last year so getting the win this year is an accomplishment. "

Lewis out-hit George Mason .280 to .160. The Flyers recorded five aces and committed just nine service errors.

Lewis improves to 10-3. George Mason falls to 4-8. The Flyers host No. 8 Ohio State on Thursday at 7 p.m. The match will be aired live on Lakeshore Public Television.
