Andy Lee and Samantha Kolar aren’t the conventional type. So when they said they were getting married and taking “the plunge,” they meant it quite literally.
The Yorkville couple, who met more than five years ago, exchanged vows on Saturday morning at Raging Waves Water Park in front of dozens of friends, family members and curious spectators.
And when they were done, Andy helped Samantha up several flights of wooden stairs, to the top of the Boomerang ride, where they would take their first plunge as a married couple. Underneath her white beaded wedding dress was a white suit that was just as beautiful. Several friends helped Samantha change as the crowd below waited eagerly for the big drop.
Camera phones and video recorders were out to record the moment that will go down in Raging Waves history. The couple’s six children — Elena, 10, Angelina, 8, Gavin, 7, Andrew, 4, Mathew, 2 and Juno, 1 — were on hand to celebrate the unique union.
“We have so many kids that it would be boring for them if we did it the traditional way,” Samantha said of her nuptials as she sat tucked away in an office, waiting for her big reveal. “This idea was fun for everybody.”
As she made her way across the park to the Boomerang where her husband to be lay in wait, spectators said their congrats, and beautiful music rang throughout the park. On the observation deck, the couple greeted each other and prepared to profess their love.
In white sundresses, and with blue flowers in their hair, the Elena and Angelina stood by Samantha’s side. The boys, in baby blue Hawaiian shirts and khaki shorts, gathered around their dad as he declared his love to his beautiful new wife.
“Sam, I promise to love, cherish and protect you for the rest of your life,” he said. “Our life together will always be an adventure. … I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us …. I could not be happier to begin this new chapter in our lives together. I love you Sam and always will.”
