Starfish Animal Rescue: Adopt one of these pets today
Willa Dean: Three-year-old, female, German Shepherd mix who is a playful joy, She is great on a leash, loves to run, likes to swim and is amazing with other animals — and loves to cuddle. Ideal home would be with a family that has a fenced yard.
What started as providing transportation to shelters and rescues in the Midwest has become a group that not only provides loving homes to rescue animals from two high-kill/high-volume shelters in Kentucky but also provides transportation for other rescue groups so that more than 2,000 dogs and pups were saved last year in Kentucky. Starfish Animal Rescue works with local and non-local rescue groups to help get adoptable animals out of shelters and up here to local groups. They rescue dogs and cats that have some severe medical issues as well those that just need a great home. They also help by donating food and some vaccines to the shelters as well. They even sponsor spays and neuters to help decrease the numbers of babies being born to be brought to the shelter. As you can imagine, Starfish does not have a lot of time to do adoption events and sometimes some great dogs can be overlooked. This column is dedicated to finding those dogs their forever home.
The adoption process starts with filling out a pre-adoption application. If the application gets approved, it is forwarded to the appropriate foster to set up a meet and greet with the potential adopters. If potential adopters want to adopt the animal after meeting, Starfish sets up a home check and have the adopters sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Once it receives the adoption fee and contract, the vetting records, microchip information and final adoption paperwork will be mailed to the adopters. (312) 816-2417
