Since the WBDC was established in 1986 as the nation’s first women’s small business assistance center, it has become known as the standard-bearer in a movement that has empowered women’s business ownership.

To date, the WBDC has helped more than 70,000 women start and expand a business. The organization’s services, provided in Spanish and English, include entrepreneurial training, business consulting and access to capital. Headquartered in Chicago, the WBDC has a regional presence throughout a nine-state Midwestern region. More than 1,400 women have been certified as Women’s Business Enterprises (WBE) in partnership with the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), thereby helping them gain access to lucrative corporate and government contracts. For 15 consecutive years, the WBDC has presented an annual Child Care Business Expo that supports women in the childcare industry and focuses on the business side of childcare. Each fall, the WBDC hosts an Entrepreneurial Woman’s Conference, arguably one of the largest and most successful women’s business conferences in the nation.

As a testament to its success, the WBDC has been recognized with hundreds of awards and accolades for its advocacy work and programs and services for women business owners. Its efforts have paid off: today, a woman owns nearly five of every 10 businesses.
