Ahoy Matey! It’s time for Gurnee Days 2013.
This year’s four-day festival theme will set sail starting Thursday, Aug. 8, with carnival rides, food and vendor booths and live music from the band Final Say.
Friday and Saturday will be filled with live entertainment, including performances by Semple (Pop/Rock), Friction (modern rock), Modern Day Romeos (top 40, ‘80s hits), The Keelan Jones Experience! (jazz/fusion), Neon Tease (‘80s), and the Buckley Road Band (country).
Friday night’s movie in the park is the family friendly classic “Hook” featuring Robin Williams and Julia Roberts.
Saturday, Gurnee Days will light up the sky with an awesome fireworks display at Viking Park.
Sunday at noon, Gurnee lines the streets for the annual Gurnee Days Parade. Watch out for pirates and sea creatures this year.
In addition, for the first time you can win prizes with the Great Gurnee Adventure: a scavenger hunt throughout the village that highlights some local landmarks and businesses.
Other attractions at Gurnee Days include a classic car show, rib-eating contest and art show.
Gurnee Days is an annual festival that celebrates the village’s proud history, advancements and treasured residents.
This year’s Gurnee Days honoree is Lisa Sheppard, the former Gurnee Park District superintendent of recreation. Her selection is a tribute to the volunteers and businesses in the community.
The Gurnee Days Corporation, a not-for-profit group of volunteers from the business community, planned and organized the festival. They work in cooperation with the Gurnee Park District and the village of Gurnee.
