Nurse-owned boutique for post-mastectomy needs
The Women’s Boutique inside ABC Medical Services is the largest boutique of its kind in the region of Northwest Indiana/Chicago south suburbs. It has a unique feature that vastly benefits clients: a registered nurse to bring a level of professional clinical expertise not found at any other post-mastectomy boutique. Deborah Parra, NR, CFM and CEO of ABC Medical Supply in Lansing, IL, brings a clinical background which assures clients their specific post-mastectomy prosthetic needs are appropriately addressed.
Having a registered nurse, who is also a nationally certified mastectomy fitter, perform the initial assessment ensures clients are given a holistic approach encompassing their current and past physical issues. Health instruction, emotional support and written materials are provided based on individual needs of the client.
The Women’s Boutique specializes in pre- and post-mastectomy care. A full range of post-mastectomy services are offered beginning with pre-op consultation to explain the services, and fit for the immediate post-operative drainage support needs. Clients are informed of available products to deal specifically with scar reduction, sensitive skin issues due to treatments, or compression needs for lymphedema, as their specific situation warrants. Other existing health issues impacting the client may require the nurse to consult with their physician on their behalf.
The Women’s Boutique offers the largest in-stock assortment of prostheses and post-mastectomy bras in the area. Additionally, swimforms, moisture control sleepwear, shapewear, wigs and headcoverings are in stock. There are two full-time, nationally certified mastectomy fitters on staff, and private fitting rooms so clients can always be accommodated. Evening and Saturday hours are available by appointment.
