Little Company of Mary’s Outpatient Care Center (OPCC) in Oak Lawn will celebrate its one-year anniversary this summer. The date of Aug. 6 will mark a year since the 51,000-square-foot, three-story state-of-the-art medical and diagnostics facility opened its doors to the community in Oak Lawn and other surrounding Southland suburbs.

The facility has over 50 physicians, nurses, technicians, and support staff that provide patients with exceptional immediate care in addition to family medicine, orthopedics, and OB/GYN physician offices at the OPCC.

The OPCC offers the community nationally certified immediate care. Special exam rooms in the OPCC trauma unit are designed to evaluate and stabilize patients ranging from a cough and cold, and bone fractures, to an acute heart attack or stroke. The center allows for emergency responders to transfer acute patients privately through a separate doorway.

The OPCC has a total of nine treatment rooms and one occupational health room that mirror one another, providing the caregivers with easy access to the patient and medical equipment needed.

The occupational health room provides drug and alcohol screenings, spirometry (pulmonary function tests), audiograms (hearing tests) and fitness for duty determinations for employers seeking the well being of their employees.

The OPCC also offers state-of-the-art diagnostics and imaging suites ranging from digital X-ray, echocardiography and ultrasound units, rendering high density 3D and 4D images, to the comprehensive digital mammography, MRI, and CT-suites. The mammography suite features a fully digital mammography unit to ensure the highest quality screenings and Computerized Aided Detection (CAD), which is special software, designed to help the radiologist detect abnormalities.

Many great milestones

Additionally, the mammography unit provides a gentle approach to the test using softer, more flexible technology for the comfort of our patients. The MRI equipment is the quietest and largest machine in the market today, equipped with a 71-cm patient opening that provides patients with comfort while rendering the highest quality diagnostic images. The 64-Slice CT delivers outstanding contrast resolution, accuracy and speed, and provides the lowest radiation dosage, all in a calm and comforting environment.

“In one-year, the OPCC has accomplished many great milestones,” said Kevin Rehder, vice president of clinical services and facilities development. “We have much to be proud of and are pleased to share a few of the center’s other notable achievements:”

The OPCC was awarded in October 2012 with three Green Globes by the Green Building Initiative for our commitment to creating a sustainable state-of-the-art medical facility and work place. “We are proud to offer our patients and employees options that help reduce our collective carbon footprint and create a culture that strives to reduce our consumption of resources,” Rehder said.

We have welcomed over 9,000 patient visits and have treated more than 5,500 patients in our Care Station at the OPCC.

The Care Station extended their hours of operation to better provide the community with medical care and treatment.
